Nature’s Tiny Detail

Hey everyone…I’m obviously not very good at playing these Flickr “tag” games, because I got tagged some time ago and forgot all about it. But I finally remembered and decided to post 16 things you might not know about me. Here goes:

1. I grew up in Utah in the same house from birth to marriage, and even after getting married, I never lived more than 20 minutes from my childhood home (my parents still live there!) until I moved to Virginia 12 years ago.

2. I will be 36 on Monday (January 12th)

3. My love of nature and the outdoors began as a child; I spent many long hours during the summer tending the garden with my Dad.

4. My interest in photography started 2 1/2 years ago, and the first year I used a point and shoot before upgrading to my DSLR, which is a Nikon D80.

5. I love amusement parks and will get on ANY rollercoaster and just about any other ride anywhere!

6. I didn’t learn to swim until I was about 28 years old; I learned with my 4-year old son.

7. Our family got RockBand2 for Christmas and so I’m learning how to rock!

8. My only brother died at the age of 1 month old, from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). I also have two sisters who are still alive.

9. My favorite birds are woodpeckers and owls.

10. In an effort to conquer a fear of speaking in public, I choose to speak at my high school graduation in front of a crowd of 10,000 people. The speech was memorized. I did it, but it didn’t cure my fear.

11. I have an intense interest in praying mantids; I have kept quite a few exotic species in the house as pets, including raising them from hatchlings when they can only eat fruit flies, which I also raised myself as a food source for them. Someday I’ll share some photos with all of you…

12. My new year’s resolution is to get fit (I’m exercising and lifting weights every day!)

13. My biggest challenge in life is that of being a Mother. (I could go on and on about this, but enough said.)

14. Someday I want to be able to travel and really concentrate on improving my photography.

15. I have no middle name because my mom thought “Rachel” was a pretty enough name to stand alone.

16. Even though I haven’t met most of my Flickr contacts in person, I consider all of you friends and am constantly astonished by your kindness and talent.

Butterfly Garden, Changi Airport, Singapore

Filed under Uncategorized | Comments Off

Changi Airport in Singapore is probably the best airport in the world. Its 3 Terminals each have a garden – this being the recently opened Terminal 3 Butterfly Garden. Note the plane to the right of the photo.

10mm focal length, -1/3EV, sharpened and level adjustment in Aperture.
